On May 9, 2025, the facade and staircase of Santa Maria in Aracoeli in Rome were illuminated with the European Union flag to celebrate Europe Day.  Santa Maria in Aracoeli, situated atop the Capitoline Hill, holds historical significance as it stands near the site where the Treaties of Rome were signed in 1957, marking a foundational moment for the European Union. 
The illumination of the church underscores its role in European heritage and the unity celebrated on Europe Day.
